Dr. Chris Thornton is the County Editor for Victoria County History Essex and will providing a fascinating sneak preview of research from the next VCH “Red Volume” book on Harwich. Chris will expand on the importance of medieval Harwich and the production and consumption of ale and beer.
David Whittle from the Harwich Museum and Richard Oxborrow from the Harwich Society join forces to take you on a whistle stop tour of more than 90 old Harwich pub names at 48 known sites.
There will be time afterwards for questions – aiming to finish at 13:00.
A Harwich Pub Walk will then muster at the Ha’penny Pier Visitor Centre at 14:30 for a circuit of the old town, picking out some interesting old pubs and buildings and exploring some Harwich history along the way.
