Colin Crawford (1938-2024)

The Trustees, staff and volunteers of the Electric Palace are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Colin Crawford, one of the founding Trustees of the Harwich Electric Palace Trust.

In 1975 Colin attended a public meeting called to assess the local interest in restoring the Electric Palace Cinema, then derelict. He immediately volunteered his services and was appointed as a Trustee when the Trust was created shortly afterwards.

For almost fifty years Colin played a central role in running the cinema. His management skills were extremely valuable, particularly after the cinema reopened in 1981.

Colin programmed and booked the films and dealt with licensing issues, insurance and other business matters. These largely unseen but vital tasks kept the cinema operating. Colin also played an important role in every decision at the Palace, including our recent restoration project.

Colin’s passion, expertise, good humour and tireless dedication will be deeply missed by everyone at the Electric Palace.

Our thoughts are with his wife Pat, their two children and four grandchildren.

In loving memory, Colin Crawford (1938-2024).
