Set in Georgian-era England, the story begins with the death of the wealthy Mr. Dashwood. Because of estate laws, his property passes entirely to his son from a first marriage, leaving his second wife (Caitríona Balfe) and her three daughters suddenly destitute and facing financial uncertainty.Evicted from their grand estate, the family relocates to a modest cottage provided by a distant relative.
