Energetic, vibrant, passionate and charismatic on all four saxophones (soprano to baritone), Derek Nash has been a member of Jools Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Orchestra since 2004, performing over 100 gigs a year.
With Jools, he has played to 65,000 people at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium and 100,000 at the Glastonbury Festival, where he was featured soloist, and has backed Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Amy Winehouse, Annie Lennox and Tom Jones, among many others, both live and on TV.
In between he finds time to run his own groups, including the award-winning Sax Appeal, which has featured most of the leading reedsmen on the British jazz scene today.
For this Electric Palace “Burn’s Night” date, Derek brings his Acoustic Quartet, which also features pianist Dave Newton (welcomed back following his Big Screen Trio concert last May) and Jamie Cullum’s original rhythm section of Geoff Gascoyne (bass) and Sebastiaan De Krom.
This will be a swinging, effervescent Hootenanny of a gig to keep those New Year vibes bubbling!
